Marked hyperamylasemia associated with carcinoma of the lung.

چکیده
We present a case of marked hyperamylasemia associated with undifferentiated small cell carcinoma of the lung. The serum alpha-amylase had an electrophoretic mobility similar to that of salivary gland enzyme (s-type), and that in tissue extracts from the lung tumor and metastatic skin nodules showed similar migration. No evidence of a salivary or pancreatic cause of hyperamylasemia was found at autopsy, and macroamylasemia was excluded. We suggest that the strikingly increased serum alpha-amylase activity was a result of ectopic production of this enzyme by tumor. We compare results for this case to other published reports.

A Case Report of Small Cell Lung Carcinoma in a Patient with Progressive Diffuse Sclerosis
Connective tissue diseases, including scleroderma, may be associated with an increased risk of lung cancer. The most common type of lung cancer associated with systemic sclerosis is adenocarcinoma or bronchoalveolar carcinoma, and small cell carcinoma is rare. This reports presents a 54-year-old non-smoker woman with a history of scleroderma who was examined due to aggravation of shortness of ...
متن کاملGood response to gefitinib for lung adenocarcinoma with hyperamylasemia: a case report.
Hyperamylasemia in patients with bronchogenic carcinoma has been reported rarely. Gefitinib, an oral tyrosine kinase inhibitor of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) signaling, has shown activity for treating patients with refractory advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). This report describes a case of lung adenocarcinoma coexisting with hyperamylasemia in a 67-year-old man. Abdomina...
متن کاملLaboratory tests in the differential diagnosis of hyperamylasemia.
We evaluated the clinical utility of some recently developed laboratory methods, including total amylase by three methods; isoamylase by inhibition and isoelectric focusing; lipase by pH-Stat and turbidimetry; and immunoreactive trypsin. All methods correlated highly positively with hyperamylasemia due to primary acute pancreatitis. Pancreatic-type isoamylase determinations have the greatest cl...
متن کاملSquamous cell carcinoma of lung with unusual site of metastasis
Background: Lung cancer ranks among the most common and most lethal malignancies worldwide. Once vascular or lymphatic invasions occur, metastatic dissemination to distant sites is common. Bone, liver, adrenals, and brain are the most frequent sites of the distant disease. In this study we present a case of squamous cell carcinoma of lung with metastasis of the left knee bursa.Case presentation...
